Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - King Of The Mild Frontier
King Of The Mild Frontier recalls the immature and near idiotic behaviors of a youthful Mr. Crutcher. Or was that me? I had a lot of trouble (betweens fits of laughter) distinguishing his bumbling antics from my own knuckleheadedness. What I always kept private, the author lays bare for the world to see, and does so with a clear purpose. Mr. Crutcher's healthy and honest approach to what makes a youngster tick delivers a unique session of personal therapy and enlightenment to the reader - all for the bargain price of a book. There is runaway humour - but much, much more. This is NOT just a book for teens or young adults. It is also for those that want, or need, to improve their relationship with the younger generation. Read it to enjoy, read it to understand, and then pass it down to your kids.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - King of the "WILD" Frontier
Chris Crutcher's King of the Mild Frontier is an autoiobiography that is fresh and funny, but also teaches his readers about life experiences and teaches people to make the right decisions. Crutcher's humorous story about his life brings you through his memories and gets you to see what it is like to be in his shoes.
It starts as funny, through the middle it gets hilarious, and goes down a slope from humour to astonishing heart pounding memories. From his strange family to his wakcy image, to his wannabe sports dreams, Crutcher brings you through a story of his life, that is heart filled and makes readers turn page after page. Pages of happiness, laughter, and drama that will inspire you to read more of Chris Crutcher's stories.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Kintg of the Mild Frontier
In King of the Mild Frontier, well-known young adult fiction writer, Chris Crutcher, tells the hilarious and yet serious story of his own life as a gullible, fierce-tempered, sports-impaired crybaby growing up in a small town in Idaho. For Chris Crutcher, growing up like this is not easy. Relationships with his brother, parents, and people of the town bring out funny stories that will stick with you. Through the stories of his somewhat odd life-experiences, Crutcher teaches some important lessons of life that he has learned. Crutcher will make you laugh out loud with his stories. He concludes his stories with comparisons of his childhood to his experiences as a psychologist. His sarcastic tone will keep young adults and adults reading this comical autobiography.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - King of the Mild Frontier
of the Mild Frontier is a hilarious, fun, and easy read. Telling stories about his very funny childhood, Chris Crutcher writes about the life of growing up in a very small town, and the struggle of trying to make it as an athlete in Cascade. Along with those stories comes with it very humorous memories.
Crutcher definitely helps his readers connect with the characters in this book by telling it how it is, not leaving out any of the comic details about trying to get the girl of his dreams. This book is very inviting, and tells about how life was at school and home for Crutcer. This book switches around from the ages of high school, and middle school, which tells stories like being shot in the head with a BB gun, trying to drop a olive in a shoe, and the deaths that happen all around Crutch. As it switches from those different ages, it shows the reader how much Crutcher has matured, and the ways that he had stayed the same.
Often Crutcher will talk about God, or going to church as a child, (even though his family wasn't Christian,) and the stories that his brother John told him, so that he wouldn't get in trouble when Crutcher was about to turn into a "balwbaby." Crutcher talks about his anger problems as a child, and often refers to himself as a balwbaby every time he was about to cry, or if he got in trouble for getting in trouble for doing something "neat."

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Good advise from your crazy ol' grandpa.
Reading this book is like sitting on your grandfather's knee while he tells you all of the crazy, might be exaggerated but who cares, stories of days gone by. One of my favorite essays was on his schools raffle. Where in, the prize was a brand-spankin-new shotgun. Not only was it given away for the school, it was given to the winner at the school. It's hard to believe that happened in this country, where a pair of toe-clippers with a small knife, will get you three days of suspension.

I would recommend that you read the very first chapter or two at your local bookstore, just to check and see if this is your style. I'm twenty-seven and I found the humour to be a bit forced at times. Mostly though, I was thoroughly amused.
