Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - reprint of a fine historical romance
In 1835 widower Thomas Nash prefers the single life that he has led since his wife died four years ago. The trapper prefers solitude and the mountains provide him with plenty of that.

Since her missionary husband died several months ago, Cordelia Channing has barely survived in the mountains. However, "flat heads" find and abduct her before bartering her off on a disgusted Nash. Irate he has no choice but to trade for her and bring her with him as no one heading east will come by in the subsequent few months until the trappers' rendezvous occurs. However he is stunned by her grit and courage as she shoots a ferocious bear, rejects several marriage proposals from Indian chiefs, and escapes capture amongst her other adventures. However, all that is child play as she fears she lost the most important thing for her survivability; having Nash return her love.

WINTER WOMAN is a reprint of a fine historical romance. The story line is fast-paced from the moment that Cordelia meets Tomas and never slows down until the climax. This coupling will remind readers of the Amazon Queen pairing even if the time period and location differ. Fans will appreciate Jenna Kernan's delightful Americana tale of love between two seemingly opposites with neither wanting nor prepared for such a strong emotion as that which comes with this second chance.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - SPECIAL -- TUGS AT THE HEART - A DEFINITE KEEPER
Cordelia Channing, by her very existance, has gained the respect of the Indians and has become something of a Legend.
She has been given the name "Winter Woman" for having survived the bitter winter in the Rocky Mountains.

The survival has of course filled her with fear of being left once again and when the Flathead Indians find her she prefers death to being left behind.

Thomas Nash, a Mountain Man, who prefers silences to talking is soon weary of Delia's questions. And being a missionary's wife she becomes concerned for his soul. And as the hormones stir, she worries about her own soul.

Delia carries and writes in her journal and leaves it laying around as she comes to believe that Nash can't read. He refuses to read or be read to out of her Bible. Soon this leads to a discusion of where to find God. In a building or in the Mountains.

Delia pitches in and helps Nash with his trap line as he refuses to take her out of the mountains with spring coming on.
She learns how to clean the skins and [would you believe] eat beaver's tails? You will love the incedent with the grizzly bear. I thought they were goners.

Soon they are dodging Indians, the Blackfoot who are constantly waring with the Mountain Crow, leading to Nash's lose of his plew.

They seemed destined to saving each other's lives. And developing a strong emotional attachment for each other.
Nash has to make a bucksking dress for Delia after he took her fishing - she caught a fish and he didn't. :)
He shows her the advantage of having a possibles bag and attach it to her belt. It carries everything she would need and carry it against lose.

The buffalo shot and running the river rapids [only one other has done it and live to tell] ads even move action to an already wonderful story.

This is a special story that is so fascinating it is hard to put down. You feels the heart tugs of Nash and Delia as they struggle to find a way to blend their lives.
Action, excellent pace, great characters and a great plot. What more could you ask for? And not entirely dependent on their gratification of their hormones.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m This should prove to be a keeper for most readers.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful debut by new HH author.
Cordelia has done what no other white woman has ever done: she survived through a winter alone in the Rocky Mountains. When she is found in the spring by Flathead Indians, they take her to a trapper so he can keep her or return her to her people.

Thomas Nash has run away from his past into the mountains after a tragedy took his young wife. Living alone, trapping, and not being responsible for another human being is all Nash wants to do, not nursemaid a woman. He agrees to keep her until fall when he travels down the mountain to sell his furs. But between spring and fall a lot can happen to change this mountain man. Delia delights and surprises this hard-hearted man until he doesn't want her to ever leave his side.

WINTER WOMAN is Jenna Kernan's debut book, and if this book is what readers have to go by, then we have some wonderful adventures in store with this author. I enjoyed Delia as she talked Nash's ears off, following behind him like a shadow, learning everything she could so he wouldn't leave her behind. I am keeping my fingers cross that Ms. Kernan already has her second book in the works. If you love frontier romance, then this is the perfect afternoon read.
