Product Description:
Photographer Cat Cochran has been to exotic places most people only dream about -- but all she wants to do is settle down and get her life in order. One last assignment and she can put her past behind her -- forgetting about her heart's disastrous misadventures as she loses herself in the natural beauty she has so far only glimpsed through a camera's lens. But very first she must photograph the mysterious and elusive ship designer T.H. Danvers and his awesome creations.
A MAN IN A MILLION Travis Danvers is dangerous -- a millionaire with an athlete's body; an enigmatic charmer capable of breaking down Cat's well-constructed defenses with a buccaneer's arrogance and flourish. She knows she must resist him, for experience has taught her that pain is the eventual price of the pleasure to be found in the arms of such a man. But caught in the waves of a sensual sea, Cat hears sirens whisper seductively, telling her to abandon all caution; to trust and love Travis with all her soul, and to ride with him on the winds of forever.

Merlington is one gifted reader. She can do different accents like no one else. It is wonderful to listen to her read a book. One of the reason I buy Lowell's audiobooks is to enjoy Merlington's interpretation. She draws you right into the book.
Cat and Travis are a wounded pair of people when it comes to romance. Both are successful in their fields and have trouble trusting in their personal lives for good reason.
Travis, though, needed a good swfit kick in the rear for the pain he caused. Cat had no business devastating her health when there were alternatives such as medical loans for her siblings. As for her mother, she should have placed her in an assisted care facility on a budget with no checkbook or credit cards. There is a limit to how much you should allow yourself to be used.
I agree with readers who said that Lowell usually doesn't make the hero suffer enough for the pain he caused the heroine. In this book, he does seem to do so. Cat probably needed to twist the knife a little more, but there is some justice here.
All in all, both Merlington and Lowell caused some long car trips to seem a lot shorter.

I initially tried reading Elizabeth Lowell when I was in high school and found the men in her novels to be testosteronally enhanced mean jerks who abused their women & expected them to like it. The women varied slightly from brain-damaged virgins with no spines to spineless virgins with no brains (all barely above the age where sex would be statutory rape). After my 4th of her books, I firmly rejected her as an author I could bear to read and never read another one until this one. I still find her hero too rigid & overly manly, but the this book was way, way, way better than anything of hers I had ever read before. It was on a "must read" list by a reviewer who I normally agree with, so I decided to take a chance and got a nice surprise. The story about the romance between the guy (Travis) and the girl (Cathy) was between mature adults rather than an overbearing alpha-male and a limp sweatsock. I didn't buy Cathy's paying her mother's bills--too bad, it's called Grow Up, Lady!, but the other demands on her time and money were most believable. The idea of her killing herself to help her family and then not ONE of them coming to visit or call when she has her big medical crisis at the end is TOO STUPID TO BELIEVE!!!!!!! That and the fact that Travis is way too mean when he finds out she's pregnant and he doesn't suffer nearly enough after her medical crisis made me knock it down four starts instead of five. I enjoyed the story, found the romance believable and was able to swallow the ending, although I had to gulp. A pretty good read & I might even be able to read another Elizabeth Lowell novel without breaking into hives!

This is the old trashy Elizabeth Lowell -- over 20 years old. I have read all her books and she keeps getting better. This is pocket romantic trash. What little that passes for plot is based on misunderstanding, miscommunication, characters who immediately in the absence of facts (or in the face of facts to the contrary) assume the worst possible motives, based on some past traumatic romantic experience. For the rest of the book they stubbornly hang on to their wrongheaded beliefs to their misery and to the boredom and annoyance of the reader. 10% plot; 90% filler made of long descriptions of sexual feelings and acts, the obligatory coursing through veins and splaying of hands, coupled with lots of angry and stupid comments, all leading up to the inevitable reconciliation. Please authors and PUBLISHERS, stop dredging up old inferior stuff and recyling it to disappointed fans

This is my very first book by Elizabeth Lowell and I must say I'm impressed! She has delivered a beautiful and passionate love story with very realistic and appealing characters. The reason I decided to read this book was because some reviews had compared this book to a Judith Mcnaught who happens to be my favorite author and so naturally, I was curious! Mcnaught, ofcourse, is an exceptional writer and her characters and their stories are truly loved and remembered for life! Although Lowell doesn't come close to her in terms of her charcterizations, she does manage to evoke almost the same gut wrenching emotions that a signature Mcnaught does and that alone speaks a lot for this book. Elizabeth Lowell has certainly wowed me with this one!!! Just wish there was an epilogue!

It is hard to describe a book like this, other than to say it is an expertly written, witty, romantic, hardbreaking, story with a happy ending. Elizabeth Lowell tells a story so endearing that your heart beats faster as you read the words and tears run down your checks. As you turn the pages you feel the pain, confusion, happiness, and laughter of the characters. There is not a woman on earth that could not relate to the story line and when once you have read it; I promise you will never forget. Tremendous book and highly recommended.
