Product Description:
Photographer Charles Edgar Rathbun was trying to crack the big time, and so was Linda Sobek, a former Los Angeles Raiders cheerleader turned model. An assignment for Autoweek took them to an isolated location called El Mirage dry lake. In his unsettling account, Nerad details the story of an exquisite woman and her collision course with the man who killed her. The book dramatically traces teh last hours of Linda's life and the subsequent investigation. From the search for her body to the search for the truth, this is a journey into the psyche of a man who some called a troubled soul, and others a cunning sexual predator.

I'm not much of a true-crime reader these days but this book, like other TC books, brings real people into horrible and surreal settings, circumstances and actions. This is a sad story.
Hermosa Beach, with it's small-townish feel: although in sprawling and over-developed Southern California, HB is cuddled along the South Bay. A small, innocuous community of people who knew each other. A laid-back slow pace with clean air, beaches, volleyball and good-looks.
Linda Sobek was a person who worked hard at her job, modeling. She took assignments carefully. Getting good work before and after being a "Raidereutte." She went to the dried lake-bed desert area of El Mirage to do a Lexus shoot with a locally renown and eccentric photographer who had a frightening but well-concealed past. An eye for an eye is what he deserves. Read to find out the rest.
A good true crime book about a sad story.

I read alot of true crime and while this wasn't one of the best I've ever read, it was pretty good none the less.
Linda Sobek was a pretty, hardworking model determined to make her name in the modeling industry. Charles Rathburn was a seedy photographer deteremined to take what he wants. Under the pretense of a photo shoot Charles asks Linda to take a ride with him. Unfortunately, Linda Sobek agrees to it. The fact that someone like Charles Rathburn has the privelege of waking up each day is sickening.

This was an interesting book although I am confused on how Linda Sobek died. It is a shame that this woman left on a job assignment with a man who was supposed to be a professional and yet he was a nut. It makes you wonder about how you too could be a victim if you let a cable, tv repairman, telephone repairman, etc. (simply because they are also doing a job and should be trusted)come into your home. Rathbun should have gotten death. To be able to live his life even though it is behind bars is too good for such a piece of garbage, and shame on his brother for trying to hide the truth just to protect his brother (who I think he knew all along was capable of killing Linda).

After reading "Fatal Photographs", I felt personally involved with the principals; as though they were old acquaintances. Nerad introduced me to, and allowed me to get to know both the victim, and the man who committed this terrible crime. It was a very good read, about a very sad story.
