Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
Valerie Simpson is a young female tennis star with a troubled past who's now on the verge of a comeback and wants Myron as her agent. Myron, who's also got the hottest young male tennis star, Duane Richwood, primed to take his very first grand slam tournament, couldn't be happier. That is, until Valerie is murdered in broad daylight at the U.S. Open and Myron's number one client becomes the number one suspect.

Clearing Duane's name should be easy enough. Duane was playing in a match at the time of Valerie's death. But why is his phone number in Valerie's grey book when he claims only to have known her in passing? Why was she calling him from a phone booth on the street? The police stop caring once they pin the murder on a man known for having stalked Valerie and seen talking to her moments before the murder. But Myron isn't satisfied. It seems too clean for him.

Myron pries a bit and finds himself prying open the past where six years before, Valerie's fiancee, the son of a senator, was brutally murdered by a juvenile delinquent and a straight-A student was subsequently gunned down on the street in retaliation, his death squandered in bureaucratic files. And everyone from the Senator to the mob want Myron to stop digging.

The truth beneath the truth is not only dangerous, it's deadly. And Myron may be the subsequent victim.

In novels that crackle with wit and suspense, Edgar Award winner Harlan Coben has created one of the most fascinating and complex heroes in suspense fiction—Myron Bolitar—a hotheaded, tenderhearted sports agent who grows more and more engaging and unpredictable with each page-turning appearance.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Enjoyable Early Novel from Coben
Harlan Coben is a superstar of suspense fiction, but didn't really become a major bestselling writer until his tenth novel, TELL NO ONE, in 2001. Before writing TELL NO ONE, Coben wrote a highly enjoyable murder mystery series involving a sports agent named Myron Bolitar. The Bolitar books have quite the cult following, but never achieved the sales sucess of Coben's standalones. DROP SHOT, the second novel in this series, is a fun read.

Unlike Coben's more recent novels, DROP SHOT is pretty much structured as a traditional mystery. A has-been tennis star gets murdered, and the murder may have a connection to one of Bolitar's superstar clients. As a result, Bolitar investigates the crime himself, and along the way manages to unearth a lot of skeletons from powerful peoples' closets.

I enjoyed this novel a lot. It's a fast read, filled with humour and a lot of fun dialogue. Coben knows how to plot a book in a manner that maintains the reader's interest, and I found the central mystery of DROP SHOT to be very intriguing. The characters in this novel are on the cartoonish side, but they are likable and fun to spend time with. I finished this book in a few sittings.

DROP SHOT isn't a particularly great novel, but it's a fun whodunnit, the type you enjoy reading on the sofa on a weekend afternoon. This book isn't as breathlessly exciting as TELL NO ONE or GONE FOR GOOD, but it's a solid book for people who like well written mysteries.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Another Wonderful Bolitar Book
I'm a huge fan and am going through the whole series as fast as I can read. These are definitely a collection of novels which I will re-read in the future.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - The Second Myron Bolitar Story Does Not Disappoint
Duane Richwood is an up-and-comer on the tennis circuit and also Myron's client. Valerie Simpson is the opposite, a down-and-outter, has-been, washed up former tennis ace. What could these two possibly have in common? When Valerie is shot while Duane is playing at the US Open and then the cops come a knockin' on Duane's door, Myron decides he had better find out, and fast.

Once again, Coben does not disappoint with Drop Shot.Win is edgy as always, Esperanza is the same smart mouth I have come to know and love and Myron is a guy you just can't help rooting for. There is loads of good storytelling in this book and just when you think you have part of the mystery solved, Coben crafts a new angle and throws a monkey wrench smack dab in the middle of it.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Coben Delivers Again!
Sports agent Myron Bolitar is thrilled with the signing of a new up an coming tennis superstar. Duane Richwood makes his U.S. Open debut, making a big splash as he cruises through his very first round match. The match is suddenly interrupted by the sound of gunfire and Myron runs off to investigate. The body of Valerie Simpson, a former mega-tennis star, is found outside the stadium. Just days before Valerie had reached out to Myron for help and now he feels obligated to look into her murder. As he digs for the truth he finds a shocking connection to Duane Richwood and another murder that took place six years ago. Now Myron and Win must team together once again to protect their new client and find a ruthless killer.

After reading Harlan Coben's debut, Deal Breaker, I was instantly hooked on Myron Bolitar and his eccentric partner, Win. Coben once again delivers with taught storytelling laced with humour and suspense. Myron's relentless search for truth is what drives these stories, while Win's psychopathic tendencies bring a whole other intoxicating element that helps separate Coben from other mystery writers. If you haven't taken the time to discover Myron Bolitar and company than you are truly missing out on some of the best and most unique mystery writing in the genre. I can't wait to tackle Coben's subsequent Bolitar novel, Fade Away.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Rather obvious little mystery centered on pro tennis
While the writer does an okay job moving along his story the solution to the 'mystery' was easily discerned several chapters before our hero managed to stumble upon it. Rather confused as to why this author is so popular. IMHO good only for passing time in airports or on trains.
