The "Samurai Aikijutsu" is really a good book. A detailed history of Daito Ryu Aikijutsu,Takeda Ryu Aikijutsu,Aikido Aikikai and Yoshinkan Aikido is given . The techniques are well described , but don't expect to learn all techniques after you read the book!!!
I was a little dissapointed: good pictures, good introduction ,good history of Aikijutsu (if you search on the Net you will find good sites about this subject)....BUT techniques don't show anything new for an "old" student of martial arts in Daito Ryu Aikijutsu or Takeda Ryu Aikijutsu.About 16 maybe 17 techniques are well described in image but more less in words - all those are taught in Yoshinkan Aikido,Aikido Aikikai and Aikijutsu. In fact you can't learn anything from pictures ... You must practice in dojo very first and after a several years of practice you will see if this book is for you or not.

Obata Soke is a "living treasure" as is this book. If you are a dedicated student of the jutsu's, combat arts, this book is a solid must have. I also highly recommend the accompanying video of the same name. SUPERB!

Few martial artists alive yesterday have the credentials of Obata Sensei and fewer still could produce such a well-written and informative text. Yoshinkan, Daito-Ryu and Aikijutsu influences are all evident in the techniques discussed and the combination of history and practical application makes this a must-have book for serious aikido/jujitsu students.
