Product Description:
A Parent's Guide to Pitching helps parents and coaches teach the fundamentals of pitching in ways young players can understand. With 130 photos and illustrations, this guide captures the best, most current information about pitching for pitchers 8 to 18. The book offers a major-league pitcher's clear, step-by-step instruction in established, proven techniques. It covers pitching mechanics, grips, and arm angles for right- and lefthanders. It describes and illustrates common problems and how to solve them. It introduces the fundamentals of sound defense and explains how to hold base runners and avoid balks. By stressing conditioning, arm care, proper training, and safety, the guide also helps parents and coaches protect young pitchers from injury. Using the timetable and the structured pitcher-development program described in this book, the parent or coach can guide their young pitchers toward a logical series of goals, from controlling the fastball to working the corners and changing speeds. But most of all, this book will help players and parents alike have fun learning how to play the greatest game of all.

This book is concise, easily the best of all the instructional materials I've purchased for teaching my son to pitch PROPERLY. It compliments the DVDs I've seen and manages to pack more information into it's short length than other much longer tomes. It is an outstanding guide for it's intended audience - the youth pitcher.

I have just started coaching my 9yr old's team. He is really wanting to pitch so I started looking for books and videos. I have probably spent over $150! So far this book is by far the best! It compliments every professional pitching video I have seen and purchased. It gives basic mechanics that unexperienced parents and coaches can understand and apply. As I have learned more I have been able to see the strong fundamentals that allow more advanced mechanics and troubleshooting. The pictures and schematics are excellent. I have even sat down with my son and reviewed parts of it with him with great success!
Basically, I have been very pleased and highly recommend it!!

Despite its relatively short length, this book is by far the best book on youth pitching I have seen; unlike other resources, it provides the appropriate amount of detail for youth pitching and keeps things very simple by focusing on the basics and identifying faults to watch out for commonly found in young pitchers. If a 12 year old pitcher can master all in this book (and practice consistently!), he will be way ahead of his peers as he enters big diamond ball. A must have for parents of prospective pitchers.

I started coaching baseball (8-11 year olds) and was at a definite disadvantage to teach my strong throwers the mechanics of pitching. This book fit the bill - it is simple, elegant, informed and provides useful diagrams and illustrations. I have read a number of books on coaching in the past few months...and this one was perhaps the most useful. I encourage coaches to acquire it, and it is also just what it says - a great guide for parents of youth who aspire to pitch.

This is not an all encompassing work on every aspect of pitching a baseball up to World Series level. It isn't intended to be, and the foreward expressly states that. This is a book for the parent of an 8, 9, or 10 year old who shows interest and potential to be a pitcher, and in that context it's gonna be real hard to do better than this. There is information that can help you, and your child, up toward age 14 or maybe more, but the primary focus is on safe, correct, basic pitching technique and exercise. If you don't know anything about pitching you need this book, but if you THINK you know something about pitching you should buy 2, one for the player so you won't cripple his arm before he's old enough to shave. That could have read "shave her legs". Girls pitch, too. It says so right in the book.
