Customer Reviews
User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Horrible!!
This comic book stinks it has a great cover and thats it the artwork inside the comic book is infantile at best I was very disappointed when I received this item I threw it in the trash should have burned it don't make my mistake don't buy it.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Power Girl has Ample entertainment value
This Power Girl collection has not only the hard to find (not availible) run of her "origin" story from the recent JSA classified story, which in of it'self is worth the price of the entire Trade Paperback.

However, there are also a sampling of the important moments and issues in the long and convoluted history of Power Girl, with some very insightful explinations and extras to help you sort out this history, and appreiciate what was going on.

Of corse if you are attracted to reading about Power Girl in the very first place, the reasons why are very much represented within the pages as well, including the beautiful cover itself (the original cover of the second printing of the very first issue of the JSA classifieds)

Trust me, if you have any intrest in this character that (amazingly so) spans and represents within herself and history all the strange days of DC comics this is for you.

And if you just want a book about a hot spunky (and tragically moving)character, you get that too.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Retcon Wreckage
Among DC's stable of also-ran superheroes, Power Girl stands head-and-cleavage above the rest. It's not because of her gradually-ballooning bust, or because of her ever-increasing angst. It's because she's a prime example of what can happen to a character when the editorial staff exercises little or no control over the direction of a character.

How many origins can one character have? Read and find out. In how many directions can we yank a character when we're not really sure how to solve continuity potholes? Again, read the book. And most importantly, how can a character who has been kicked all over the DCU emerge as a character actually worth reading? Ahhhh... Read and discover.

I gave this title four stars not because it's thoroughly wonderful reading. It isn't. The early stories range from merely nostalgic to positively atrocious. The Paul Kupperberg story made me want to yank out my own fingernails. Only the last stories are really worthwhile comics reading. I gave this title four stars because it should sit on the shelf of everyone who wants to write or edit a comic book, anyone who even thinks of "re-imagining" a character, and anyone who thinks the snarls and kinks of decades of sloppy editing can be undone by a "Crisis" crossover. This book should have a legend in fluorescent orange printed across it: "Beware: This could happen to you!"

If you're just a casual reader looking for good comics writing, this isn't the book you're looking for. On the other hand, if you're interested in comics as an art form, you should own a copy of this little gem. The wildly varying quality of the writing and art enable the reader to glimpse a cross-section of the medium in one inexpensive volume. That's worth the price, in my book.

I like Power Girl. I bought this book for that reason. Heck, I admire the tenacity of modern writers who've been able to salvage her as a viable and sympathetic character, given what she's been through. So yes, I recommend this book to collectors and comics fans. If nothing else, this is a reminder that you should always treat even your C-list heroes and villains as though they might one day be among your biggest sellers. Who knows when your fans will begin clamoring for Power Girl...or Wildcat...or Hourman...or Robin?

Besides, if you've never seen Amanda Conner's artwork, this book is worth the price for that experience alone.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Just who is Power Girl anyway?
The publisher, DC Comics, has been doing so much retconning (retroactive continuity revisions) in the last twenty years that in some cases, a fan who enjoyed comics in 1986 or 1995 would find today's characters, even though they go by the same names and look the same, unrecognizable. This volume, a collection of previously-published material, is an essential read for today's fan to have any idea what this character has undergone since her introduction thirtysome years ago. Various artists' and writers' work is reprinted; the quality is uneven, but enough is excellent (the art of Amanda Conner in particular) for this purchase to be worthwhile.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - needs focus
This is a prime example of how Dc has a tendacy to overfil it's roster of superheros.I mean, this character never would have gotten a different writer and origin every few years if she was a marvel character.Marvel would of examined her flaws and defined her powers better,Dc seems to care more about putting a set of muscles or curves into a colorful suit and calling that a hero than doing the nitty-gritty of character developement.Still, the comic is interesting as an unintentional spoof of DC.
