She's given up on him and moved on...
Susannah finally has a peaceful, calm life and a no-surprises man. Marriage to football superstar Ryan Sanderson was a whirlwind of passion, heat, energy, and excitement, but Susannah got sick of playing second fiddle to his team, watching women throwing themselves at him, and living in terror of the hard hits he took on the field. With their divorce just days from being final, she's already planning a wedding with her new fiance...
He's finally figured out what's really important to him. If only it's not too late...
Ryan has just ten days to convince his soon-to-be ex-wife to give him a second chance. He has just brought home his third championship and his career is at its pinnacle, but during the year of their separation, Ryan's come to realize it doesn't mean anything at all without Susannah...

I have to gush. I absolutely LOVED this book and think I've sold a good dozen for her just by telling everyone about it. Marie Force has created characters that jump off the page and into your heart. Ryan is a hunk and Susie is justifiably tentative and you can just feel the love brimming between these two. Marie grabs us by the heart from page one and the ride only gets better from there. I was just mad that the story ended! I can't wait for her subsequent book; Marie Force's books are ones for my keeper shelf!
Marie, it's a...(wait for it!) TOUCHDOWN! *grin

Marie Force wrote a beautiful romance that even a non-football fan could love. Her hero is nothing short of delicious and her heroine is tough and tender all at once. It was funny, heartwarming, and hot all at the same time. I think Marie scored a touchdown with this book. I'm looking forward to her subsequent one...even if it is about football.

Susannah Sanderson and her famous quarterback husband have been separated for months and are just ten day away from their divorce being final. While Susannah is entertaining her new fiancé's parents, she hears the tell-tale signs of an intruder, an intruder that has a Texas twang and dimples. That same intruder is responsible for Susannah's greatest joy and her most heart wrenching sorrow - Ryan, her estranged husband. Trying to get him to leave is a lesson in futility because he isn't budging and before she has time to think, Susie agrees to spend the subsequent ten days with Ryan. She has no choice; without her cooperation Ryan promises to have their divorce proceeding halted, much to Susannah's horror. After all, her new life is just beginning or so she keeps telling herself.
Ryan Sanderson has come home to heal. Put in the hospital by a late hit during the Super Bowl, Ryan is a walking/talking tower of pain. He knows he has only one chance to convince his wife that their love and marriage are worth another try. Acting upon impulse, Ryan gives Susie an ultimatum - give him the ten days before their marriage is dissolved to convince her that their love is worth fighting for or he will postpone his agreement to the divorce indefinitely. Ryan bluffs his way through the proposal but lucky for him he knows his wife.
Susannah reluctantly agrees to Ryan's demand. She keeps telling herself that the love she and Ryan shared is gone but deep down she knows she is lying to herself and to Ryan.
To say that the cover of LINE OF SCRIMMAGE caught my attention is an understatement. I was drawn to it like a moth to a porch light. Reading the blurb, I was further intrigued and knew I had to read LINE OF SCRIMMAGE - and I did - in one entire sitting.
Susannah was the recipient of my sympathy but not in a "feeling sorry for her" kind of way. She had my sympathy because I ould relate to her. I could sense the barriers she erected around her heart and I could not blame her. She had wants and needs that Ryan was not meeting at the time and because of this, Susannah was afraid to believe that he had changed. I loved her attitude with Ryan's fame most of all. She is what kept him grounded and her witty comebacks to some of his statements made me laugh out loud.
Ryan Sanderson. This man made me sweat. Three times Super Bowl winning quarterback, Heisman trophy winner, favorite male athlete the world over, worshipped by women everywhere but despised by his wife and desperate to find one ounce of the love Susannah used to have for him. She was the one person with the ability to bring Ryan to his knees. As for his characterization, I loved every single facet of Ryan. From the tips of his dusty, well worn boots to the top of his cowboy hat covered head, Ryan Sanderson's charm and dimpled smile won me over pretty quickly - in fact, it was all over but the crying with me from the very first scene in LINE OF SCRIMMAGE when he interrupts Susie's dinner party. The way he loved Susannah solidified my feelings.
A very strong debut novel for Marie Force, LINE OF SCRIMMAGE is one of the best contemporary romances I have read this year. Susie and Ryan's marriage was almost over but they agreed to try for each other. Their marital problems were discussed, they got angry with each other, they were honest. LINE OF SCRIMMAGE was intensely emotional and very honestly portrayed and I treasure that in a book above all things.
In my humble opinion, LINE OF SCRIMMAGE is a must read just for the plot alone. Add in the sensual love scenes between Ryan and Susannah and even the most jaded of readers will believe in romantic second chances and forgiveness. I know I do! ***Natalie S. for Wild on Books***

Can you believe it? Me, Mrs. doesn't really read `sports' romances, and I've read two in the last week! And enjoyed both! This is surely cause for celebration. My most recent is "Line of Scrimmage" by Marie Force. It's about football, did you guess? It's also about the debutante and the quarterback. But don't hate them for that because their life hasn't been a bed of roses.
Susannah is finally calling it quits. After ten years of marriage to football's `Golden Boy', she's just 10 days away from divorce. She's going to marry the man she left behind who never gave up on her (and never let her forget it either) 30 days after her divorce is final. So when her soon-to-be-ex shows up demanding she spend the remaining 10 days of their marriage with him, she's furious. But he swears if she doesn't, he'll contest the divorce. What's a girl to do?
Ryan never meant to cut it this close. He's been against the divorce from day one. Susie is the only girl for him and he's always been true to her. While he doesn't know exactly what happened to kill their romance, he knows he's not about to give up without a battle. So if he has to blackmail (he prefers bully or persuade) her into giving him this time; then so be it.
The author did a great job of personalizing these characters. I actually grew to care for this couple. They have taken several hard knocks during their marriage; ones that many marriages don't survive. So once I read enough to get to know both of them, I wanted their relationship to continue. I wanted them to be happy, together. At very first I disliked Susannah...which is interesting because I think most women readers normally take the female's side in a `divorce' situation and have to be persuaded over to the other side. But from page one, she seemed pretentious and weak...she rubbed me the wrong way. As the story progressed, I would like her, then dislike her, then like her, then dislike her. She frustrated me which made me admire Ryan even more! Ryan, on the other hand, was almost too good to be true. Poor boy makes good yet doesn't fall victim to booze, drugs, or women. He also was willing to admit mistakes and sacrifice even his pride for his woman. Like I said, hard to believe. But I still fell a little in love with him, and isn't that what we want in all our heroes?
"Line of Scrimmage" kept me `in' the story. I didn't get bored or want to put the book down. I wanted to know about this couple and how they would resolve their problems. I think the thing I liked best about Marie Force's novel is the lesson that no marriage, no matter who you are or what your situation is, can survive without working at it and learning to compromise and see your partner's point of view. Ms. Force didn't scream this at me, she snuck it in throughout the book while I wasn't looking. Clever, clever woman.

This is a great book by a new (to me) author. I loved the emotional depth of this book. This is definitely a case of not judging a book by the cover. (Even though I totally dig the cover) This book isn't your average football romance. Ryan and Susannah have unbelievable chemistry and theirs is a story of how hard marriage can be, but how true love is really worth all the work. Ryan has always taken his relationship with Susannah for granted and Susannah doesn't want to play second fiddle to Ryan's career any longer. Reading about these two finding their way back to each other was wonderful. I love books that have a lot of different emotional aspects and this one certainly does. If I had to pick one thing about this book that I didn't like, it was Susannah's fiance, Henry. His attitude and demeanor was a total turn off. Of course, that just made me love Ryan more.
