I got this book to help me with designs for an afghan block swap project that I am doing. The patterns in here are lovely, but I have a few reservations about recommending this book:
First of all, the patterns given are for making 6" square blocks only. No gauge is given for any of the patterns. Second, the designs are written for using DK weight yarn. (And the author didn't state that all the yarns used were DK weight until the back of the book!)
These facts make it quite difficult for me to increase the block designs to what I am interested in making, which is a 12" square block using worsted weight yarn.
So far, though, once I figured out the correct gauge for my project, the designs do seem to be free of errors.
If you are interested in making an afghan using DK weight yarn, this book would be much more useful to you. But on the flip side, an afghan made with DK-weight yarn is not going to be as substantially warm as one made with worsted yarn.

I am having a great time with this book. There are many different block patterns to choose from with lots ideas for colour variations provided. There are solid blocks that focus on stitch patterns and blocks that combine two or more colors. So far I am just sticking with the easiest blocks and still enjoying the results. My afghan will be a sampler style, but the author also gives some suggestions (with full colour pictures) for afghans with a more "pulled together" look. I am not a fast knitter, so I like the feeling of accomplishment that comes with finishing a block. Also, I have some peace of mind knowing that the blocks will make a really great pillow, should I lose my ambition along the way.

There are some excellent ideas in this book, however, there are numerous errors--especially in the lacy patterns. Only two corrections are listed on publishers site. Could have been a lot better.
