If you're brand new to poker or you have a thing for the personalities of the game, this book is fantastic. If you were hoping to learn some winning secrets, this book is about as appealling as 10-2. With a different title I could give this book 4-5 stars, but I'm tired of all these books that lie on their cover. Something about not judging?

From the few other reviews here and browsing through the book, I thought this would be a informative read, giving some of the insights and tips that put the pros way above everyone else.
There is some good material here on just that. But the problem is Fornatale asks precisely the right questions in a forthright way and the pros dodge giving an answer. Fornatale asks how do you learn to be a more aggressive player? And Liz Lieu answers, "I would prefer not to give ... [that] out." She goes on to explain that would help other people beat her.
So obviously here the author hit the nail on the head and the pro, knowing this, wouldn't answer. Over and over in the interviews, the winning secrets are not revealed.
Much better in answering how the pros play is Trademark Poker Poker Insight DVD Volume 4 - Expert Play. That is the volume of the DVD series I have and it's filled with specific details. (For example on the DVD, the interviewer gets excited while discussing a straight draw hand, and T.J. Cloutier says something like "OK, but right now a small pair like sevens can beat you." Pros don't chase a draw.)
This poker book is particularly disappointing because apparently the author's other book on horsetrack betting really does deliver the goods.

I hope that more players will get a chance to know about this book. From the current sales levels I wouldn't guess that many players are even aware of this book. But don't let the lack of hype or marketing let you overlook this one.
If you are serious about poker and your development as a player this may be one of the two or three most important and helpful books you could read! I know that is a bold statement but Fornatale has hit the jackpot with this book. He asks a relatively large group of professionals some very good questions about some very important aspects of the game. He covers live cash games, online cash games, tournaments, psychology, bankroll and personal development. The players he picks are all professionals in some area including three respected poker author/players, several high profile tournament players. He also includes several online pros.
The responses from so many different players are eye opening and insightful and really give you a solid sense of what it takes, both from a natural talent and working to develop your game points of view. Many books touch on these areas but to have numerous pros weigh in on so many topics is very useful. And not all of them agree with the others on the questions asked which was a real revelation. Bottom line, there is no single approach to winning poker but of the many approaches discussed in this book you should find many ideas which could save you months or years of trial and error and stumbling around on your own. Really, really good.

The book is exactly what it claims to be: a series of interviews with poker pros, including Phil Hellmuth, Ed Miller, and Daniel Negreanu. The information they provide is as valuable as they are, that is, you can take some and leave some. The format is easy to follow and the interviewer asked some good questions.
What is missing: an index. It would have been nice to quickly find out which pros talked about which topics.
