The Sword (The Sons of Destiny, Book 1) I bought this book to give the series a try. Figured if it wasn't up to my type of reading I would only be out this one book. After spending just two nights reading it I headed back to Amazon for the subsequent two books in the series.
The Sword...Saber...ah what a man, so sure he would keep his brothers safe from the curse that was lay-ed upon them, living such a boring life in a castle on there own island, doing there magic. Till yes he meets his match, Kelly is a very modern lady, oops that's not what Saber is into in-fact he has a hard time dealing with the 21st century lady, but does he fall? Is Kelly, Sabers curse or an answer to his prayers? Is Saber, Kelly's one true love or just a way out of her own life fears?
I can tell you Jean Johnson's very first book in this series sets you up to want the rest. She has brought 8 brothers, 4 sets of twins to life with humor, drama, magic and the great spirit of love, wisdom and caring. I am giving this book top marks just keeping my hands off the other's I have till I have them all...if I can wait that long that is.

I HAVE READ THE SWORD,THE WOLF&THE MASTER.EACH BOOK KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!I WAS GRIPPED AND ENTHRALLED FROM THE FIRST BOOK THRU TO THE THIRD.HOT PASSION,A UNIQUE ABSORBING PLOT,COMPELLING CHARACTERS WITH WARMTH AND HUMOR,THIS IS THE PERFECT SERIES.KELLY WAS A FASCINATING HEROINE WITH ALL SHE HAD TO CONTEND WITH COPING WITH EIGHT SLOPPY MALES WHOM COULD USE MAGIC.
I HAVE ALREADY ORDERED THE OTHER THREE IN THE SERIES AND POUTING THAT I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE LAST TWO,THE FLAME DEC.2008,THE MAGE APRIL 2009.
ITS SO WONDERFUL TO FIND A GIFTED WRITER WITH AN IMAGINATION THAT SOARS AND TAKES YOU WITH THEM.DON'T MISS THIS SERIES..........

I was really torn on whether to rate this as 2 or 3 stars! I LOVED how the characters got to know each other better and the sex was nice.
But what made me finally decide to give it 2 stars was how ticked off I got with the heroine. It seemed until she came along the brothers were complete morons whose lives were empty, uncomfortable and dirty. But now that she was there everything is all better, the castle is clean and she knows how to solve all their problems. Yuck! I got so sick of the fact that she had an answer to everything that I didn't even read the last 50 pages -- I just couldn't take it any more.

i enjoyed the story, but i'm debating whether this is a keeper? the premise of 8 brothers and fulfilling their destinys is an excellent one, but it just didn't have the it factor..
saber and kelly were both likeable, there were some instances that kelly may have taken her "bossiness" a little too far, but it worked for the story, having been through what she had, i can see kelly not trusting too fast, and being on constant guard.
although if i had been one of the brothers with all this magic at hand, i may have put a spell on her so that she couldn't make a sound against them ;O)
i think i will give JJ another chance, as i would really like to read about Rydan's story.. (although he is the sixth brother and i'm not sure i will remember this series when his book does come out)
would not purchase at full price

Bottom Line: Try before you buy
This seemed like an awfully predictable book to me. None of the characters grabbed my attention, nor did I connect with them, nor did they interest me in any way. I wish they had.
It was a bit, corny for my tastes. Boy meets girl and falls in love is probably the oldest story ever written, now show me how you can make that story different and show me how you've changed it into an awesome story, that has me laughing/crying/jumping for joy. This book just didn't do any of that for me.
I'd recommend Kresley Cole (If you Dare series), Elizabeth Vaughan (Warprize), Lora Leigh (Submission/Seduction), Rhyannon Byrd (Against the Wall) for straight romance.
Or if you want paranormal romance Kresley Cole (Immortal series), Keri Arthur (Riley Jenson series), J.R. Ward, or Lora Leigh (Breeds series).
