Product Description:

Lochlan MacAllister was born to lead. Ruthlessly groomed to take control of his clan, he has given his life to his people. But when he learns that the brother he thought was dead might still be alive, he embarks on a quest to find the truth.

Catarina wants a life of freedom. But now Catarina's royal father wants to use her as a pawn to ensure a treaty between conflicting lands. So much so that he's willing to kidnap his daughter to force the issue. But when she escapes, fate throws her into the path of a man she loathes.

Lochlan is stunned to find the shrewish Cat being hauled away by unknown men. Unwilling to see even her suffer, he frees her only to learn that she has her own demons to fight. When their fates intertwine, two people who know nothing of trust must rely on each other, and two enemies who have vowed their eternal hatred must find common ground, or see their very lives shattered.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Curve ball ending
I love this series. I am a Sherilyn Kenyon fan, so after reading all of those books I had to read these to. I really enjoyed this one, it was right on target until Kieran...fangs...what? Here's my theory, Kieran dies in Outremer, it's a very violent death. In the Dark Hunter Series, all DHs are created when they have violent deaths and the soul screams for revenge. I think in future DH novels she'll crossover (she's hinted at this) some of the characters. So where the seems crazy, it does make sense to me...sort of.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - I didn't enjoy it, and I wanted it to be over.
The story had typical romance novel ingredients: strong hero, feisty independent heroine, bad guys chasing the heroine, and the good guy saving her. It felt too plodding for me, like it was going through the motions of a book. It was a very ordinary story. I wasn't drawn in emotionally. I didn't care about what was happening. The events and conversations were not interesting.

I did like the minor character Kestrel, who played a small part toward the end of the book. He was a skilled tracker, able to follow the trail of the kidnappers. He advised the couple as to a cool place to hide. He also made comments and recommendations as to their relationship, which was almost out of character for a guy like that, but I liked it because it was unexpected. I found him surprising and fun to read about. But, Kestrel alone isn't enough reason to justify buying the book.

Story brief: King Philip of France has an illegitimate daughter Catarina, who is being raised by relatives. The king has arranged her marriage for a political alliance. She runs away to avoid the marriage. The king's guards capture her and handle her roughly. Lochlan is a Scottish laird who is traveling through France searching for his long lost brother. He sees Catarina being hurt, and he rescues her. He agrees to take her to her relatives. They are on the run from the king's guards as well as from some other bad guys.

Story length: 344 pages large print. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: 3. Length of sex scenes: 4.2, 6.5 and 7.2 pages. Setting: sometime before 1300 in France, England and Scotland. Copyright: 2007. Genre: historical romance.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - MacGregour has done better
It's a long time since I have read about the McAllister clan so the people seemed fresh in my mind. That being said, I still did not enjoy this novel

The heroine, Cat, the daughter of the King of France was your typical I hate men female but atypical as this is medieval Europe. She is on the run from her father's guards as she does not want to marry the Prince he has chosen for her.

In rides Lochlan to her rescue. He is on a mission to find his brother, who he believed was dead but now thinks is living. Lochlan has been hurt by women in his past and was the child of an abusive father. He doesn't like Cat but feels honor bound to help her since she was instrumental in saving his brother's life.

These two encounter so many characters in France. Cat knows them all or Lochlan seems to. The plot line here is simple; girl is on the run, hero saves the day.

Cat and Lochlan generated very little heat. They seem most impassioned when they are trading insults with each other. Then poof suddenly they are in love and lust. Now Lochlan must decide whether he will pick true love or risk his own life.

I won't go into the story with the long lost brother. It is a bit confusing and there are a lot of twists and turns in the plot.

This gets a two star rating. Lochlan was an okay hero and Cat became an okay heroine. The plot was lacking and the coincidences of meeting so many people the leads knew on the run were implausible. Every time they met a traveler on the road, either Cat or Lochlan greeted a known friend or an enemy.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - kenyon/macgregour - always read!!
Ever since I picked up Dance with the Devil, I can't stop reading anything kenyon/macgregour writes. Her wit never ceases and the characters are so vivid. If you've never read anything of hers, please do. Wonderfully done. She does a lot of series work, though, so you may want to start at the beginning and buy them all. Once you start, you'll just want to read more and more. She's addictive!!

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - enjoyable
I mistaken the book for one belonging to another one of this author's series, so I didn't have the background on this hero and his brothers like other readers may have. Regardless, I found this story engaging. The herione was funny and sneaky which made her endearing and the hero was sexy and ...well.. heck...what more matters? I'm glad I accidently read this.
