Carolyn Davidson is an outstanding author. Her books are interesting, catch your interest on page one and continue to hold you until the last page. I've emailed Carolyn and she was nice enough to return my request. If she write it, I'll buy it.
This order came fast, the book was new and ready to read.

Funny how one snafu can pretty much ruin an entire book. This book tells how after a big family dinner everyone worked together to clean up the kitchen and more company showed up "after the last dish was placed in the dishwasher". This was Thanksgiving, 1903!
The very first useful and workable dishwasher was invented by Josephine Cochran in December of 1886 and it was exhibited at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. Only restaurants and hotels had dishwashers in its early days and it was NOT widely used by the general public until the 1950's. It would have been extremely rare for a family to have a dishwasher in 1903 and if they did, it would have been a major production to the entire family when they used it and it certainly would not have been casually used as indicated in this story. Certainly not by the same woman (Alexis) who told Jamie that she wanted no part of "the horseless carriage" and that the horseless carriage would absolutely NEVER take the place of a good team of horses!
It took me about 2 minutes on the internet to determine when the dishwasher was invented and it just seems a bit lazy on the author's part not to have done the same thing.
Now, all that aside, I just didn't much care for Jamie. Besides his treatment of his brother's fiancé several years previously, I did not care for the way he talked to Alexis and told her the way things were going to be---that is HIS way. If she had truly been the independent woman that Ms. Davidson was attempting to portray her, she would have kicked his overbearing butt to the curb!
The one thing that Jamie did RIGHT was when he put paid to Mick! For that act, Jamie deserves a serious ATTABOY!

Story was well written but not a very invigorating plot.
No felt passion. excellent characters and in keeping with the time line of the other stories of these characters.
James Webster's story is nicked into Brace Caulfield and his wife Sarah [TEXAS LAWMAN]as he takes on the ranch for Sarah's nephew.
Jamie is the brother of Connor Webster [OKLAHOMA SWEETHEART] who married the girl Jamie got pregnant. Connor's sweetheart.
Well, 8 years later, Jamie has changed his tune and his ways as he courts Alexis Powers. No hanky panky here. Just marriage.
The danger to Alexis peters out after the canyon episode but she is already married and pregnant by then.
The women turn out to be the central bonding story - the men just seem to be in the background.
Very slow reading for me -
