Product Description:
Whether she's creating incomparable love stories of passion and redemption or breathtaking tales of romantic suspense, there is simply no finer storyteller at work yesterday than the phenomenal New York Times bestseller Elizabeth Lowell
A beautiful woman alone in the Colorado Rockies, Shannon's last hope lies with a rugged loner.
Proud and courageous, cast adrift by the War Between the States, Shannon Conner has carved out a life for herself in the mountains. But now that she's become a target of the vile, predatory Culpepper brothers, she must turn to a stranger for help -- Rafael 'Whip' Moran, an enigmatic wanderer tied to no place or promise. Intrigued by this intoxicating 'widow' with a walk like honey and a tight grip on her shotgun, Whip is resolved to defend Shannon's honor and her life. But no peril in this high, lonely place is greater than the intense passion the lady inspires within him -- for it threatens to cost Whip the freedom that is as much a part of him as his soul.

Go read the very first of the Only series and when you get to this one go back and reread them.
Only Love is the story about brother Rafe aka "Whip" Moran. Unfortunately, just as we saw with brother Matt aka "Reno", Lowell transformed this charming gentleman into a lust-driven alpha hero driven to the depths of stupidity by desire. (Not that I should be surprised since the Moran brothers happily left their baby sister and parents to survive in the midst of the Civil War so they could "wander".)
Whip's big conflict is that he wants Shannon but doesn't want to settle down and marry the girl. Shannon's conflict is she loves the stupid ox and doesn't want to be beholden to anyone. So he'll leave her to the local rapists and she'll happily starve in her winter's cabin. That is until he wanders back and she throws a female hissy fit.
After reading the earlier books I had a real hard time getting into this one. The scenery is well painted, but the story is a reissue of past novels. Whip's desire to wander keeping them apart is a pale imitation of Wolfe craving the freedom of the West and fearing the land is too harsh for wife Jessi. Shannon's hissy fit harkens back to Eve's belief Reno thought her a whore and riding off in a flurry of blue skirts. And the characters showed far more lust than love for each other.
I wish the series had ended on a high note. The Moran family is a fun one to visit with. Having them all together for the winter would have been a far better attraction. There are more Moran brothers wandering out there. Maybe Lowell will return to these stories one day and give us a story that's truly worth being a series finale.

This was one of my favorite Lowell books. Unlike most of her heros, Whip did not go through an angry, mean period towards Shannon, my least favorite element of Lowell's novels. No one does raw emotion and sensuality like Lowell and this one delivers.

I have read Elizabeth Lowell's medival romances, and I would recommend them to anybody...I have to admit I wasnt very sure about this genre with her, but she has completely captivated me with this book, I regret not having started the series in order but now I'm hooked and ready to know more about the secondary characters from this book...
