Product Description:
THE ANGEL AND THE HELLRAISER
Come heck or high water, Gracie Snow is determined to track down the legendary ex-jock Bobby Tom Denton and drag him back home to Heaven, Texas, to begin shooting his very first motion picture. But taming an egotistical cowboy in a '57 T-Bird might be more than this prim Ohio wallflower can handle.
Despite his dazzling good looks and killer charm, Bobby Tom has reservations about being movie star -- and no plans to cooperate with the bossy little virgins whom he can't get off his mind or out of his life. Instead, the hellraising playboy decides to make her over from plain Janet Texas wildcat.
But nothing's more dangerous than a wildcat with an angel's heart in a town too small for a bad boy to hide. And all hell breaks loose when two unforgettable people discover love, laughter, passion -- and a match that can be made only in Heaven.

What is it about SEP books? Most of them follow the same theme. A down on her luck damsel in distress, a commitment-phobic tough macho man and an opportunity for them to discover in each other the true meaning of being in love.
Though I usually know what to expect, and can predict most of the time what will happen, Susan Elizabeth Phillips always leaves me wanting more. Her romantic writing style is unmatched, witty and fresh!
Life without football is something Bobby Tom Denton never would've imagined. Unfortunately he suffers a career ending injury that forces him to step back and think about what he will now do with the rest of his life. His superstar status lands him an opportunity to shoot a movie in his hometown, and he begrudgingly, albeit amiably accepts.
Being that this is Bobby Tom's very first acting gig, the producers of the film hire someone to manage his schedule and make sure he has his act together - this is where Gracie Snow comes in.
From the door, Bobby Tom tries to get rid of Gracie and gives her such a hard time. He even manages to get her fired. Now, with his conscience weighing him down, he talks the producers into rehiring Gracie and from there the two begin an interesting employee vs. employer relationship.
The geeky Gracie is a sweetheart who just wants to be successful in her career. Bobby Tom begins to see the beauty she posses on the inside and begins to soften himself towards her. Gracie is unlike any woman he's met and has a charming innocence about her. The relationship that ensues between the two main characters is a great one!
Great dialogue, interesting plots and secondary characters who are just as appealing makes this an easy, breezy read.
HEAVEN, TEXAS is another SEP winner.

"It seems like an easy assignment for an assertive but SWEET WOMAN LIKE GRACIE SNOW: track down her friend, Bobby Denton, a famous ex-jock, and bring him to Heaven (Txas, the is) to shoot a movie.
How could he refuse a glamorous offer like that?......"

This book made me stop reading SEP for a bit, made me want to take a break from the same re-hashed plot. I really like her writing and her wit, but I didn't enjoy this book very much. I very first stumbled upon SEP with "Match Me If You Can". I love that book, I think it's very funny. But after reading several SEP books in a row I felt like I had seen it all before... super studly superstud meets plain jane and treats her like dirt until he later realizes she's perfect for him. There were a couple of SEP books in a row where I found myself saying "here we go again".
I think if you don't try to read all her books close together that won't be as much of a factor, however, this still would not be one of my favorites.

Another of Ms. Phillips' best, this time in a somewhat bland setting the better to show off the colorfulness of her characters. The romance genre is often criticized, fairly or not, for pasting rote characters against exotic backgrounds, and Ms. Phillips is perhaps the best refutation of this stereotype. This book is the antithesis of that criticism, taking a small, dusty Texas town and populating it with colorful, funny, flawed and believable people who stand in bright and memorable relief against long flat roads and dry heat. The hero and heroine, who often play second fiddle to more quirky secondary characters, are here fully formed and endearing even in their flaws. The only complaint I have had with Ms. Phillips' writing is that her endings often underdeliver on the promise of the rest of the book, but here she's brought it all together in a moving, satisfying way. Her Chicago Stars series as a whole is terrific, but this book and "Nobody's Baby But Mine" are the highlights. I envy those who have the enjoyment of reading it yet to come, and I thank Ms. Phillips for writing it.

A good read overall, but not very believable. If it's read in the context of entirely fantasy-fiction and you don't try to relate it to real life I think it's very humorous and enjoyable. To me though, Bobby Tom was hard to like, and Gracie just needed to grow a backbone. I really liked the secondary relationship with BT's mother, and I especially liked the Sawyer character.
I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone but that's just my personal preference. It wasn't bad, it wasn't great - it was just a way to pass the time. I'm currently reading "Natural Born Charmer" also by SEP, and seeing a LOT of the same story points and character traits used there. This was my very first SEP book and I'm wondering if any of her books are more original. It actually kind of surprised me what a devoted following she has, but maybe I didn't start with the right book.
