Customer Reviews
User popularity level: out of 5 stars

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Unsuitable for wussies and adults with control issues..
And there are several pathetic examples of the latter group in this review section. My 5 y/o grandson adored this book. Healthy kids love this stuff. How do you wimps deal with real life?

"THOSE OF YOU WHO STILL HAVE HEADS, LAY THEM ON YOUR DESKS!"

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - A Teacher Who Teaches Children To Read!
To the naysayers and detractors of Mike Thaler's books, cut it out. When dealing with reluctant readers Mike Thaler's The Teacher From the Black Lagoon series gets youngsters to read. Other great authors for reluctant readers are John Scieszka and Dav Pilkey. These books are geared towards little boys that dislike reading. Give a reluctant reader a book with potty humor, heads cut off and general silliness and you'll get that child to read. So it's not Frog and Toad or Nate the Great. Get over it.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - HILARIOUS!!!!!!
I'm surprised by the other more recent reviews on this one... I read it to my class, and they LOVED IT! I can't wait to get the entire set, so that they can read more about the lovely imaginations of the "Black Lagoon" series. Great illustrations, vocabulary, and descriptive imagery!!! Definitely a keeper!

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Revolting
Parents beware! This message of fear of the unknown can be given in infinitely better ways. The writing style is for a very young child. However, before you find out the main character is having a dream, children in his class have been beheaded, half eaten, turned to ashes, entirely eaten and "is digesting", or had a head shrunk to the size of a pin (picture given of small head on girl's body). At naptime the teacher says "Everyone who still has one, put your head on your desk."
I do not find this flight of fantasy amusing. Where, one might wonder, did this boy become exposed to such violent images? This book is more likely to create new fears for your children, than to calm their fears.
I also reacted a little to the teacher ending up as a blond with, if not blue eyes (they are just grey dots), then blue eye shadow.
Violence and stereotyping. Worst children's book I have read in a long time.

Rated by buyers 1 out of 5 stars - Inappropriate for 5 year olds!
As a parent of a 5 year old I was shocked when the teacher sent this home for reading homework. A child this age doesn't need to see images of a child without a head, or half a body, or being consumed by fire. My child has a great respect for teachers. Just because a teacher doesn't look like the supposed all-American female doesn't mean she's going to be a monster. Do we want to teach our children fear of teachers? The age rating on this book is too young. We're the kind of parents who screen T.V., movies and even commercials. Violence in the media is rampant. Foster goodness before evil.
