Editor's Notes and Comments:
Product Description:
An Original Six NHL member, the Broadway Blueshirts boast one of the most renowned histories in the last 100 years of North American professional hockey. Now hockey's premier historian recounts all of the Rangers' luminaries, as well as their most telling moments on ice. Throughout the years, Stan Fischler, a Manhattenite of almost a half-century, has covered both the Blueshirts' highs and lows. Regarded as the dean of American hockey journalists, he has been covering the sport for 55 years, and has been following the Rangers even longer. With over 90 books on hockey published to date, there is nobody better to narrate the history of one of hockey's most celebrated clubs, the New York Rangers.

Stan Fischler is known in these parts[New York], as the hockey maven. He has authored over 90 books on the sport, and is without question one of the greatest historians of the game. His latest book offering "NEW YORK RANGERS GREATEST MOMENTS AND PLAYERS", is a 265 page overview of the teams best players and moments. This book will not appeal to all fans. For instance, if you are looking for lots of photo's, and statistics this is not the place for you. The book is very weak in the photo deptartment, with most players not even warranting a picture. The biographies are okay, but most Ranger fans, more than likely have read them elsewhere. I also have to question his choices of alltime Rangers. I do not believe Wayne Gretzky, Phil Esposito, Mike Gartner, or Doug Harvey deserve recognition as alltime Rangers based on 3-4 years service each. Young fans will enjoy the inclusion of some modern day rangers, such as Sean Avery, Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, and Henrik Lundqvist. Again, of these four, only Henrik Lundqvist has a chance to become an alltime Ranger in my estimation, and that is if he doesn't become a free agent one day, and go elswhere. All the players are listed in alphabetical order, but the overall layout of this book is not appealing at all. I really feel this could have been so much better. I can't recommend this book to the novice Ranger fan, because it would help if there was photo's of such stars as Gilbert, Giacomin, and Park, so new young fans can at least see what they looked like. Not even a Messier photo in the book! The long time fan should seek out "Broadway's Longest Running Hit" "The New York Rangers" by John Kreiser and Lou Friedman; or the 75th Anniversary book which is lavishly illustrated on glossy paper and well layed out. If you need to learn in detail about the early years, "When The Rangers Were Young", by Frank Boucher, is a must to seek out on the used dealer network. The interior design of this book is awful, and it seems as though it was put together in a rush to get it out in time for the holiday's. I was expecting much more, and never would have purchased the book, had I seen it beforehand.
