Editor's Notes and Comments:

Product Description:
This is a unique collection of conversations with prominent individuals in business, government, science, education, sports and the arts which discuss the essence of success. Gleaned from hours of taped interviews, the author presents 40 profiles of a diverse group of men and women, young and old, which provide anecdotes from their lives and experiences. Subjects include: Sandra Day O'Connor, very first female justice of the US Supreme Court, Bob Dole, former US Senator and 1996 presidential candidate; Sparky Anderson, Hall of Fame baseball manager; Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 'Miracle on Ice' US Olympic hockey team; Ken Burns, noted documentary filmmaker; Hilary Hahn, Grammy-nominated concert violinist; and many others.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - One of the best books I've come across!!!
When I begin to feel lazy and unfocused on my goals, I simply pick up my copy of The Heart of Sucess and I get an instant booster shot of motivation. That's quite a feat for an author to accomplish. Dr. Dan Tripps has the amazing ability to write a story in such a way that I feel like I really know the subjects of his interviews. They come across as real and open, and I literally feel like I'm at Starbucks drinking lattes with them and having a heart-to-heart with them personally!

I find out answers to questions like: What motivated them to sacrifice so much to achieve what they did, and do they feel that their sacrifices were worth it? Do they feel a great sense of pride when they look back over their lives or do they find that their achievements don't matter much to them anymore? Do they have any regrets, and if so, what would they do differently if they could do it all over again? And how did find out what their passion is? Were they automatically drawn to it or did it take time to develop?

I've come across similar books where the authors interviewed people and put together "sucess stories", but no one has the ability to weave together a story the way Dr. Tripps can. He adds his own points to the stories which transform them from 2-dimensional biographies into 3-dimensional ones, full of emotion and depth. And he picks people with character and wisdom to profile unlike many other book authors who profile people for their fame rather than true greatness. In fact, in this book, Walter Cronkite gives the best definition of sucess that I've come across - truly successful individuals make a contribution in their field that has an impact beyond their lifetime, regardless of the recognition they receive. This book has a spiritual undertone to it, imparting the message that the journey is just as important, or even more important, than the actual destination.

This is the type of book that one can read over and over again, because its grounded in solid fundamental principles that never goes out-of-date.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - Worth reading
The concept for the book is great, and the author has interviewed some very interesting people that have done amazing things. The only problems I found with the book were that the author sometimes injected his own world hypotheses into the text, and that he often added a pithy quote and/or a lauding comment at the end of a profile, when a simple quote from the person would have done just fine. Overall, worth reading, though.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Engaging
As a reader, I felt privy to conversations between the author and celebrity achievers in sports, music, politics, science, media, and education. Each of 40 people are allocated 4-8 pages with highly variable content. Olympic swimmer John Naber, for example, ticked off sucess tips as if he were on a speaking platform while ultra distance swimmer, Diana Nyad, revealed personal trauma that generated extra pages psychological issues. The book has a Forrest Gump feel; instead of a simple guy interacting with celebrities, however, this is a complex author simplifying the sucess of celebrities. Written as part of a college curriculum it does not stand alone as a quick self help guide but this book does have numerous examples to convince non-students that "the potential for sucess is within everyone."

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Oozing with insight and discovery!
This is really a handbook on how to live life to its fullest! Oozing with insight and discovery, these intrigueing biographical summaries show you the way to evaluate the real measure of success. Dan Tripps takes you on a passionate journey directly to the heart with an unprovoking kindness and empathy. Beautifully written and organized and easily mesmerizing, he is able to uncover the best in humanity through a melange of true champions, leaving you with a sense of what life really should be all about. How encouraging to feel as though anyone can be hugely successful by developing positive inner qualities spiced with undaunting perseverance. This is a must read for anyone who wants to learn and grow as a human being and an invaluable reference of inspiration that you can look back on again and again.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - Insightful and Balanced
This is a very insightful book. There is an easy-to-read depth in Tripps' portrayals of the people he has interviewed. I also appreciate that Tripps has a good balance in the people he has presented. Some of those profiled are conservative while others are liberal. Tripps does a good job showing how people who can't meet in the center can still share attributes that allow them to succeed in reaching their dreams.
