Amazon.com:
The second season of the wildly popular Dragon Ball Z comprises the 'Namek' and 'Captain Ginyu' sagas. Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma travel to the planet Namek to find an even more powerful set of Dragon Balls that can restore the lives of Tenshinhan, Yamucha, Chaozu and Piccolo, who were killed by Vegeta during the very first season. (Their souls continue to train with King Kai in the Other World.) All is not well on Namek: the arch-villain Frieza, who looks and sounds a bit like Truman Capote, also desires the Dragon Balls. If he uses them to obtain eternal life, he'll rule the universe forever. With a cadre of lieutenants that includes Vegeta, he slaughters the Namekians to gain the supernatural orbs. After his injuries have been healed by a magic senzu bean, Goku heads to Namek. En route, he trains at 100 gravities, raising his powers enormously. Vegeta believes Goku may be the legendary Super Saiyan that appears once a millennium--except he lacks the requisite love of battle. This version of Goku is less aggressive, and he uncharacteristically uses his brain (never his greatest asset) to defeat Ginyu, Frieza's second-in-command. Unlike Season 1--Vegeta Saga, Season 2ends on a cliff-hanger. Skeptics may find Goku's adventures needlessly protracted, over the top, and even silly. But for millions of boys, they provide the special blend of comradeship, martial arts training, and take-no-prisoners battles they love. The newly remastered edition includes the original Japanese dialogue for the very first time. (Rated TV PG. suitable for ages 8 and older: violence, minor risqué humor, brief nudity, tobacco and alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

The Dragonball Z series is excellent but this season was just a filler with character introduction and lead up to the Super Sayian transformation.

If you like Dragonball Z, and you don't have this yet. . . you have better been under a rock. Although the second season can get a lil boring it is really good all in all.

It brings back memories when I used to watch it on tv. There are so many episodes that I have not seen, so it is fun to catch up. I can't wait til the subsequent box set!

The Dragon Ball Z Season Two DVD box includes six DVDs that contain thirty-five episodes. The very first five discs contain six episodes, while the sixth disc contains five episodes and the DVD extras.
One of my favorite things about this DVD set is the "marathon feature." This allows you to watch all of the episodes back-to-back, but you only see the opening credits once; the ending credits are not shown when watching with the marathon feature. This feature's really helpful when you're trying to watch all the episodes on a single disc in one night.
I was rather disappointed by the special features. All you get are the textless versions of the opening and ending credits (which were previously included on the box set for the very first season), and trailers. To be honest, I didn't think these features were quite so "special." The audio mastering levels for this DVD release were also an issue. FUNimation's opening splash screen and the trailer at the beginning of each DVD were mastered at a high audio level, but then the menu and the actual episodes were mastered with a rather soft audio level. This would mean having to have my volume turned way down until the main menu appeared; then, I would suddenly have to crank the volume back up quite a ways in order to hear the audio for the episodes.
While I was disappointed with the audio levels and the lack of special features, this set is still a "must get" for any Dragon Ball Z fan that wants all the episodes on DVD. The price isn't too bad for what you get, but it would have been a little more worth the price if FUNimation had gone to a little more effort on the special features.
