Editor's Notes and Comments:

Description:
When Sam (Culkin) continually gets picked on by the school bully, he and his protective older brother decide to teach the bully a lesson he will never forget. Together, they come up with a plan that involves inviting the bully on a special river trip for his birthday where they will make sure he is humiliated for all to see. Deciding that he no longer wants to go through with the plan, Sam tries to call it off but it's too late and he must live with the resulting consequences.

Amazon.com:
Deliverance goes to high school in this grim, stripped-down fable of a prank gone bad. Friends decide to teach a lesson to a teenage bully by inviting him on a canoeing trip where they will humiliate him once and for all. The prank turns seriously sour, and the kids must deal with the consequences. Writer-director Jacob Aaron Estes takes a somber look at these lives, although his low-key approach makes the central tragedy seem melodramatic when it happens. The film isn't quite new enough to be truly revelatory, but Estes neatly avoids a River's Edge rehash by allowing his characters more than dead-eyed anomie. The actors hit their notes with precision, especially Rory Culkin (another of the Culkin family, with Macaulay and Kieran), Ryan Kelley, and Scott Mechlowicz. This is the kind of movie that may be slightly familiar to older audiences, but could easily be a home-video cult item with younger viewers. --Robert Horton

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - characters come to life..
I enjoyed the movie, except the whole time I was watching it I thought, "this would make a great book". This movie would be ripe for a sequel...have the same characters come back and reprise the roles 10 years later and see how their lives have changed and unfolded. A lot of plot threads were left unresolved for some of the characters.

Rated by buyers 3 out of 5 stars - When Plan B comes too late.
Five teenagers stare solemnly at a fresh flow of rolling murky water, their minds fixed on a question, "How exactly did we get here?" Their decision to exact mild revenge on the town bully has reaped devastating consequences, and yet, even darker events lie ahead for all of them.

Mean Creek is a depiction of what happens when the bottom falls out, as our carefully calculated plans take on a life of their own, leaving us as mere spectators while the actions around us take the wheel and drive drunken and headlong into the realm of unseen, maddening circumstances.

An extremely dark film and you should be warned. This type of cinema is not for everyone. Even still, if you are an indy-hound, Mean Creek will likely serve as an ample offering to your unique taste. I enjoyed the premise, but some of the characters were a bit contrived. Overall, however, Mean Creek is solid entertainment and will keep you involved.

Rated by buyers 2 out of 5 stars - Great Movie, Bad Unbox...
The movie was great more than i expected from an indie film, however, the unbox player and downloader gave me loads of problems and i had to try it on multiple computers before i could get the movie to download.

Rated by buyers 4 out of 5 stars - Amazing, brilliant and shocking
"Mean Creek" is one of those movies that you draws you in little by little and leaves a lasting impression. The movie is about moral choices, about peer pressure and making mistakes.

A group of teenagers invite a kid for a boat ride. Unbeknownst to him, they have actually made a plan to teach him a lesson for beating up Sam, the brother of one of the older guys. But, as the day progresses they decide to cancel the plan, they don't want to do it anymore. SPOILER. When something goes horribly wrong, the teenagers must deal with the realization of what they have done, whether to assume responsibility or succumb to peer pressure and the easy way out. END SPOILER.

This is a really great movie with amazing performances by such a young cast.

Rated by buyers 5 out of 5 stars - My opinion
I think that this movie accurately describes a couple of things: very first the good and bad side of people. And secondly the, (what I consider appropriate response to someone or something that poses a deadly threat to those around themselves). I think that the kids who reacted to the imminent threat only done it out of preservation for each other and so they represented a higher standard of living. Now georges' character was acting out of some dark, angry, self-requiting place and brought on his fitting end. I don't advocate vigilantism but, do not at all think that we should spend tax-paying money from better people to analyze why these carnivores are going out and on an impulse hurting innocent people who enjoy life.
